As a mother who has lost her son to gun violence, I understand firsthand the devastating impact that guns can have on families and communities. My heart goes out to all the parents who have lost a child to gun violence, and I know that no words can fully express the depth of our pain and grief.
That's why I'm grateful for our organization Guitars Not Guns, which offer hope and healing to children and families impacted by gun violence. Through the power of music, Guitars Not Guns helps children build self-esteem, develop musical skills, and find joy and fulfillment in their lives.
As a California non-profit corporation originally founded by the late Ray Nelson, and his wife Louise Nelson, Guitars Not Guns has been making a difference since 2000. With affiliates and chapters created across the United States and Canada, the organization has grown significantly over the years.
I am proud to be a Director on the National Board of Guitars Not Guns and the President of the Maryland Chapter of Guitars Not Guns-Allen’s Gift, which was founded in December of 2014. Together, we are working to make a difference in the lives of Maryland's children, and to offer a brighter future to those who have been impacted by gun violence.
Through our programs, we aim to empower children with the tools they need to succeed in life. We provide guitars and music lessons to children who might not otherwise have access to these resources, and we offer them a safe and supportive community where they can learn and grow.
At Guitars Not Guns, we believe that every child deserves a chance to succeed, no matter their background or circumstances. And we are committed to making a difference in the lives of those who have been impacted by gun violence.
